Beaches

If you only get the chance to visit one beach on your trip, Kapalua Bay should be the one. Kapalua Bay has won numerous awards, including "Best Beach in the World," by Conde Nast. Kapalua Bay truly has it all! Because the bay is so well protected, some of the very best snorkeling on Maui can be found right here. Gentle waves, soft white sand and breathtaking beauty are what continually keep this beach on the list of top beaches in the world. Honus (turtles) and Hawaiian Monk Seals frequent this beach and are commonly found taking a rest on the sandy shores. If you are snorkeling, do not be surprised to find yourself side by side with one of these giant Honus! Be sure to visit the bay for a sunset; it will be one like you have never experienced before! Kapalua Bay is truly heaven on earth!

The Kapalua® Coastal Trail begins and ends at Kapalua Beach. We suggest finishing your walk at the Kapalua Bay and taking in a spectacular sunset. If you are too tired to walk home, do not forget to call the free shuttle; they will be happy to pick you up and drop you off at your door!

This secluded beach is located in the Kapalua® Resort; it is a true hidden gem! Oneloa Beach, also known as Ironwood Beach, is one of the least crowded beaches on Maui, making it feel like your very own private beach. This is a wonderful location to relax in the sand and take in the rustic beauty of the surroundings. Surfers and body boarders frequent this beach, and the Kapalua® Coastal Trail is located directly behind it. Oneloa is known to produce some strong riptides, so be alert when in the water.

Fleming Beach is located in the Kapalua® Resort bellow the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Named America`s Best Beach in 2006, this long and wide beach features a crescent shaped shore line, with an Ironwood forest directly in the background. This beach is rarely crowded. There is enough room on the white sands to give beachgoers more than enough room.

Currents can become strong, so be cautious when entering the water and pay attention to the flags. Unlike most beaches on the west side of Maui, Fleming has a life guard on duty. Public restrooms, grills and picnic tables are available for public use.

Honolua Bay is one of the most famous surfing spots in the world, hands down. Fortunately for us, Honolua Bay is located just north of Kapalua® (and is clearly visible from the Resort).  Professional surfers from all over the world seek out these legendary waves, waves which challenge even the very best-of-the-best of the surfing world.  If you are up to accepting the challenge, be sure you have a good deal of surfing experience under your belt.  

On the other hand, those who decide that this is not the safest spot to practice that “hang-ten,” but who still love good surfing, can make the short drive to a good spot overlooking the Bay.  It is a thrill to watch these surfers tackle these incredible waves!
